KEPCO E&C continues to win the ITER equipment supply orders. On February 5, KEPCO E&C jointly received an order with Trillium Flow Korea to design and supply special valves (pressure control valves, nozzle-type check valves, pump bypass valves, and direct read flow devices) from ITER. It was followed by jointly winning an order with Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction (DHIC) for drying condenser design and supply on February 8. A drying condenser is a heat exchanger that condenses steam in nitrogen gas in the tokamak cooling system. The special valve supply business’s core technology is to maintain the stainless steel material’s purity strictly to withstand high electromagnetic fields and beta radiation and ensure each special valve’s main functions operate accurately. The ITER’s recognition of DHIC’s technology of printed circuit board heat exchanger (PCHE), called the next-generation heat exchanger, played a positive role in winning the order for drying condensers. This order was made as part of the ITER collaborative cooperation program that KEPCO E&C is promoting to vitalize the domestic nuclear power plant ecosystem. “We plan to secure technologies in nuclear fusion demonstration/commercial reactors and support the government’s policies for collaborative cooperation with SMEs and energy transformation actively by continuing to participate in engineering services, equipment supply, and trial runs for ITER projects,” Jin Tae-eun, the head of the Nuclear Division of KEPCO E&C, said. |
