Business Agreement to Create a Clean Energy Hub City on the West Coast

On August 22, KEPCO E&C entered a business agreement with Boryeong City and seven other companies, including Korea Midland Power Co., Ltd., to create a clean energy hub city on the west coast.

The signing ceremony held at the Mudrin Hotel in Boryeong City was attended by officials from each company, including Vice President Kim Dong-Kyu, Boryeong Mayor Kim Dong-Il, and Korea Midland Power President Kim Ho-bin.

At the ceremony, participating organizations set cooperation principles and contents to convert energy to carbon-free fuels to combat the climate crisis and decided to cooperate closely to create a hub city on the west coast that utilizes clean energy in the entire cycle of production, introduction, storage, use, hub terminal establishment, domestic introduction, etc.

The cooperation matters of each participating organization to create a clean energy hub city on the west coast by utilizing clean energy, a carbon-free fuel, for carbon neutrality, and expanding the project are as follows.

- Boryeong-si: Overall management of the creation of a clean energy hub city on the west coast;
- Korea Midland Power Co., Ltd.: Use of clean energy & facility improvement;
- Lotte Chemical: Establishment of clean energy supply hub infrastructure & supply;
- Lotte Fine Chemical: Establishing clean energy infrastructure and securing supply safety;
- Samsung Engineering: Development of clean energy business and conducting FEL/ EPC;
- Doosan Enerbility: Development & substantiation of combustion and supply system;
- KEPCO E&C: Feasibility study & design for using clean energy;
- Pusan National University: Development of clean energy analysis technology & new technology;
- Korea Institute of Energy Research: Development & substantiation of clean energy production & combustion technology;
- Korea Energy Economics Institute: Preparation of policy support measures to create a hub city

According to the ‘2030 Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC)' and the '2050 Carbon Neutral Scenario', it is essential to build a stable supply chain for carbon-free fuel. Based on engineering capabilities in the energy plant sector, KEPCO E&C plans to build global competitiveness in the future growing business with active participation in developing power generation technologies by adopting carbon-free hydrogen and ammonia and launching clean energy projects.
