On December 14, a ceremony to commemorate the completion of Shin Hanul Unit 1, for which KEPCO E&C is performing comprehensive design service and reactor system design service, was held at the Shin Hanul site.

About 500 officials from the government and municipalities and foreign dignitaries attended the event, including President Kim Sung-arm at KEPCO E&C, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Lee Chang-yang, and President Hwang Joo-ho at Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co., Ltd.

As the 27th nuclear power plant in S. Korea, Shin Hanul Unit 1, which was completed in 12 years from the start of construction in 2010, achieved Korea’s first-ever localization of core facilities such as the reactor coolant pump (RCP) and the man-machine interface system (MMIS). Notably, this occasion marks a milestone as the first nuclear power plant to announce the revival of the nuclear power industry after the government's new energy policy.

Shin Hanul Unit 2 is also scheduled to obtain an operating permit in early 2023, and enter commercial operations around the end of September.

Meanwhile, for their contribution to the completion of Shin Hanul Unit 1, Park Gye-gwan, head of the Domestic Construction Department, and Park Seok-jeong, head of the Safety Analysis Department, received the Industrial Service Commendation and the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award, respectively.
