안티-드론방호체계 분야 사업수주를 위한 기술협력협약(MOU)체결

On February 9, 2023, Tera Defense (Inc.) and KEPCO E&C signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to cooperate on developing the technologies for an anti-drone defense system at nuclear power plants and commercializing the system.

The signing ceremony was attended by Kim Yong-Soo, head of KEPCO E&C’s Power Technology Research Institute, Kim Jong-Soo, CEO of Tera Defense (Inc.), and other working-level personnel of both organizations. The two companies agreed to collaborate on technology and policy areas of commercializing the anti-drone defense system, as well as developing new businesses and markets related to the drone system.

The anti-drone defense system is a system that can search, track, and neutralize unregistered, unmanned drones and suicide drones that otherwise could severely cripple important national facilities. Tera Defense will provide anti-drone solutions for transmitting notifications on looming drone intrusions, designating dangerous areas, guiding people to safety during evacuations, and supplementing defense at nuclear power plants. These solutions were developed by Tera Defense using domestic AESA* Radar technology which has a detection range of more than 10 km and is highly accurate.

Intrusions by unmanned North Korean drones and the Russia-Ukraine War have heightened awareness of the need to better protect critical national facilities. Both companies are hoping that this MOU on constructing anti-drone defense systems to protect critical social infrastructures like power plants will build the foundation for growth that sets both companies apart as leaders in related nascent markets and contribute towards national security.

* AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array) Radar: An antenna assembly made up of a large number of small transmitter and receiver modules. By electronically altering the phase of the antenna, AESA can generate a beam in a desired direction. Excellent detection distance and high accuracies are the strong points of AESA radar.
